Hamas has urged international bodies to stop Israel’s continued ceasefire violations, as the US reveals its redevelopment plans for ‘New Gaza’.

Israel has continued its bombing of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as the US Trump administration revealed its ambitious plans for the foreign-led redevelopment of the enclave.

Tel Aviv has also maintained its block on vital aid to the enclave, amid extreme cold temperatures that have claimed the lives of dozens, including many children.

A three-month-old infant died from the extreme cold, bringing the number of child deaths from the winter freeze to ten, according to a report by Palestinian news agency WAFA.

Despite the ceasefire, the Israeli army has continued its attacks in Gaza, carrying out large-scale demolitions in Khan Younis and firing tank shells and bullets from their positions east of the Jabalia refugee camp in the territory’s north.

Hamas issued a statement urging intervention to force Israel to comply with the ceasefire, which includes stopping attacks and allowing the entry of vital aid.

“We call on the Security Council to assume its responsibility to halt the occupation’s violations and compel it to abide by the terms of the agreement, foremost among them the entry of aid and shelter supplies, and the commencement of relief and reconstruction efforts, especially given the severe rain and cold weather currently affecting the Gaza Strip,” the statement read, highlighting that Israel has killed 484 people and wounded 1,297 others since the ceasefire came into effect on 10 October.

Elsewhere on Thursday, the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) warned that Israel’s prison authorities are using the winter chill as a means of torture by depriving Palestinian detainees of basic necessities, including clothing and heating.

The PPS said that Israel has implemented a policy of stripping detainees and depriving them of their basic needs since the beginning of the genocide in 2023. It warned that such policies constitute tools of collective punishment and systematic revenge aimed at physically and psychologically torturing detainees.

‘New Gaza’

Away from the grim reality on the ground, US President Donald Trump’s team revealed plans for “New Gaza” during the ceremony at the World Economic Forum, with the US leader describing the devastated Palestinian territory as “great real estate”.

Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, like the president, a former property developer, showed slides of what he billed as a “master plan” for Gaza’s reconstruction.

They included maps of new settlements and artist renderings of gleaming seafront hotels and apartments under the caption “New Gaza”.

“It could be a hope. It could be a destination,” Kushner, who has previously described the future of Gaza in real estate terms, said.

Trump told Hamas to disarm under the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire accord or it would be the “end of them”.

The presentation also included a pre-recorded video message from Gaza’s new administrator, Ali Shaath, who announced that the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt would be reopened next week.

Reports in Israeli media, however, cited Israeli officials as saying that the Rafah crossing will remain closed until the return of the last deceased Israeli captive, Master Sgt. Ran Gvili.

Palestinian factions in Gaza have said they are still searching for Gvili’s body amid Gaza’s rubble, and have accused Tel Aviv of obstructing the process by limiting the entry of equipment.

Another source who spoke to multiple Israeli outlets said that the reopening of the crossing would be discussed in a cabinet meeting, adding that “special efforts” are underway to retrieve Gvili’s remains.
