A spokesperson for the Civil Defence urged an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire and called for the opening of safe humanitarian corridors to allow the entry of fuel, equipment, and essential supplies needed to continue rescue operations.

The escalation follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s order for “powerful strikes” on the war-torn enclave. The directive came after an exchange of gunfire in southern Rafah, during which an Israeli soldier was injured.

Hamas’s armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, has accused Israel of violating the truce and announced it would delay the planned handover of the body of a missing captive.

The group also claimed to have recovered the bodies of two more Israeli captives- Amiram Cooper and Sahar Baruch- during search operations conducted on Tuesday.
