PETITIE TEGEN ACAA OVEREENKOMST EU-ISRAEL, UITBUITING PALESTIJNEN NIET IN MIJN NAAM!
Vandaag 18-9 stemde de Commissie voor Internationale Handel (INTA) van het Europees Parlement over ACAA: voor. De voorstanders wonnen nipt. Het advies van de INTA-commissie wordt vervolgens plenair voorgelegd aan het Europees Parlement. Wordt vervolgd dus, vooral met acties richting Europarlementariers.

SLACHTING SABRA EN SHATILA 1982 – 2012: DE DADERS ZIJN NOG NOOIT BERECHT, LESSEN VOOR DE TOEKOMST
De slachting in Sabra en Shatila onder regie van Israel is inmiddels (september 2012) dertig jaar geleden. Iets om bij stil te staan, telkens opnieuw. De daders en verantwoordelijken zijn nog nooit berecht.

RUSSELL TRIBUNAL ON PALESTINE-NYC TO BE LIVE-STREAMED OCTOBER 6–7, 2012

Though tickets have SOLD OUT for the Russell Tribunal on Palestine [2] (RToP), taking place in New York City, October 6–7, 2012, you can watch all of the expert testimony and jury questioning on live stream at Free Speech TV [3] and on the Russell Tribunal’s Web site [4] starting at 10am each morning and ending by 6PM. (NL: 16 – 24 UUR !!)

Participants include: Pink Floyd’s singer/songwriter Roger Waters, public intellectual Noam Chomsky, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker, Israeli historian Ilan Pappé, Black civil rights icon Angela Davis and many, many others of note from around the world.

In a brief video clip [5] Roger Waters made for the hearings, he explains, “I will be required as a juror to sit, to listen to testimony which will maybe give me a little bit more of a feeling about where a solution might lie. There is a nonviolent solution to their problem that might stop us all killing each others’ children for the next 100 years.”

The Russell Tribunal on Palestine was launched in 2009 following Israel’s bloody assault on Gaza, which killed approximately 1,400 Palestinians, and has since worked to bring together legal experts, scholars, activists and other people of note to expose the reality of Israel’s 45-year-old military occupation and colonization of Palestinian land. Previous sessions have been held in Barcelona, London and Cape Town. These hearings have addressed, respectively, European Union support for Israel, the complicity of corporations in the occupation of Palestine and the question of whether Israel is guilty of the crime of apartheid.

THE FOURTH AND FINAL SESSION WILL BE HELD ON OCTOBER 6–7, 2012, AT NEW YORK CITY’S HISTORIC GREAT HALL AT COOPER UNION (7 EAST 7TH STREET, MANHATTAN).

ACAA kon de EP-commissie voor  Internationale Handel van de Europese Parlement (INTA) onlangs maar net passeren; als één voorstemmer (D66 bijvoorbeeld) had tegengestemd dan was ACAA tegengehouden.
Ook in het Europees Parlement (EP) zal het net aan zijn, wel of niet. Er is dus een uitstekende kans om ACAA toch nog tegen te houden! Daarvoor moeten wij wel aan zoveel mogelijke EuroParlementariers – en vooral de vele twijfelaars onder hen – onze stemmen laten horen tegen ACAA!

Het Nederlands Palestina Komitee (NPK) is aangesloten bij en neemt actief deel aan de ‘European Coordination of Committees and Associations on Palestine’ (ECCP). Samen met ECCP-partners uit de diverse Europese landen is het NPK al lange tijd bezig om EuroParlementariers (EPers) te lobbyen tegen ACAA, tegen een handelsovereenkomst tussen de EU en Israel om Israelische producten makkelijker toegang te geven tot de Europese markt. Als ACAA doorgaat dan is dat het belonen van Israel voor al haar schendingen van het Internationaal Recht, voor al haar schendingen van de Palestijnse rechten.

– Tomorrow evening there will be an attempt to postpone the vote on ACAA and to refer it back to the International Trade committee. The chair of the International Trade committee has discovered additional legal concerns in relation to ACAA. I will vote in favour of this proposal as it would not only give the committee a chance to fully address the outstanding issues but importantly, it would give extra time to campaigners throughout the Europe and beyond to build pressure and increase the chances of ACAA being defeated.
– In response to the most concrete concern, that this Protocol may result in goods produced in Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories entering into the European market. Two amendments have been tabled which call on the Council to make a statement and to add an ‘interpretative declaration’ to the Protocol. The interpretative declaration seeks to clarify that products from the settlement cannot benefit from the Protocol. While I support this declaration and have co-signed the amendment, I feel that the adoption of the interpretative declaration is not a strong enough argument to give consent to ACAA. First of all, the adoption of the
amendment will not put any legally binding restrictions on the Council. Secondly, even if the Council was to make this statement, I am generally opposed to upgrading
trade relations with the State of Israel under the current circumstances. The brutal oppression of Palestinians, including the continued building of illegal settlements
in the Occupied Territories continues. The upgrading of trade relations with Israel can be interpreted by the Israeli government as an endorsement of this policy.

Over 600 academics from all over the world have signed a petition to the Israeli Council of Higher Education (CHE) calling on them not to close the Department of Politics and Government of Ben Gurion University of the Negev (BGU). Israeli Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar said just days ago that Professor Neve Gordon, faculty member in the Ben Gurion’s Department of Politics, should be fired for his support of boycott.

De Palestijnse landarbeider Emad is inmiddels toe aan zijn vijfde videocamera. Iedere camera die kapot ging, vertelt een deel van het verhaal over het verzet van zijn dorp tegen de onderdrukking door Israël. De documentaire won op internationale filmfestivals inmiddels vele prijzen.
