Palestine Water Authority repairs major supply line to northern Gaza

The Palestinian Water Authority has repaired a major water supply line to northern Gaza, an official announced yesterday. The pipeline was destroyed by the Israeli occupation army for a second time in June.

The head of the authority, Mazen Ghoneim, stressed that it has been keen to repair the line as quickly as possible, given that it supplies about 60 per cent of densely populated areas in Gaza City.

Ghoneim added that, over the past few days, and with continuous efforts in light of the dangerous security conditions, the authority’s repair teams have continued essential maintenance and repairs on the line. Damaged parts were located and identified, and pumping operations were tested to ensure that water can be supplied to local communities.

Moreover, despite the unprecedented circumstances in the northern Gaza Strip, explained Ghoneim, the authority was able to repair Al-Mintar line in April. However, the Israeli occupation army targeted the line yet again and destroyed large parts of it during their attack on the Shujaya area two weeks ago, so new repairs were carried out over the past few days.

He stressed that the Water Authority is monitoring all water lines closely to ensure that there are no malfunctions and continuing its efforts to provide safe drinking water to as many people as possible, despite the continued bombing and reduced capabilities.
