Jewish settlers attack Palestinian residents of Sheikh Jarrah

Middle East Monitor  /  January 10, 2022

At least 20 extreme right-wing Jewish settlers raided Sheikh Jarrah, the Palestinian neighbourhood of occupied Jerusalem, on Sunday. According to eyewitnesses, the illegal Jewish settlers attacked local residents and were protected by Israeli occupation police officers.

Safa news agency reported that the settlers accompanied one of their number who lives in a Palestinian house in the neighbourhood taken from its rightful owner four years ago. They apparently chased Palestinian children and women, while screaming insults at them. This incident ended with a fierce argument between the Palestinian residents of the neighbourhood and the illegal settlers.

Elsewhere, a group of Jewish settlers killed three sheep and injured another three belonging to a Palestinian from the village of Al-Mughayir near the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah. The Palestinian was grazing his sheep near the village when settlers drove deliberately into the flock.

Meanwhile, yet another group of illegal settlers attacked Palestinian activists taking part in a tree-planting project near the village of Burqa in the occupied West Bank.

Settler violence has become part of daily life for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. Observers believe that the settlers are officially, albeit under the radar, encouraged and funded to carry out such attacks.
