Israel begins construction work along the demilitarised zone in Syria

Middle East Monitor  /  November 12, 2024

AP reported that the Israeli occupation army has begun construction work along the demilitarised zone in southern Syria.

The agency said that the satellite images it analysed indicated that “Israel has begun a construction project along the so-called Alpha Line that separates the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from Syria, apparently laying asphalt for a road right along the frontier.”

The UN confirmed to AP that Israeli troops entered the demilitarised zone in violation of the ceasefire rules governing the area.

The work, which previous satellite images showed actually began in late September, comes after the Israeli occupation army completed the construction of new roads and what appears to be a buffer zone along the fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel.

The Israeli occupation army has also begun demolishing villages in Lebanon, where UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) have repeatedly come under fire.
