The international Middle East Quartet made up of the European Union, the Russian Federation, the United States, and the United Nations discussed on Tuesday a “return to meaningful negotiations” for a solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict. A copy of the Quartet’s statement was sent to MEMO.
In it, the group’s Strategic Communications and Public Information Officer, Murad Bakri, said that envoys of the four members had an online meeting to discuss such a return with the aim of reaching a two-state solution.
“The discussion,” he added, “included tangible steps to advance freedom, security, and prosperity for Palestinians and Israelis, which is important in its own right.”
The envoys said Bakri, also looked at the situation on the ground. “In particular, the Covid-19 pandemic, the unsustainable disparity in economic development between Israelis and Palestinians, and the need for the parties to refrain from unilateral actions that make a two-state solution more difficult to achieve.”
