A member of the Hamas Political Bureau said on Monday that the movement will support a national unity government regardless of the outcome of next month’s parliamentary election. Dr Khalil Al-Hayya told Al Aqsa TV that Hamas wants to reorganise the Palestinian institutions and support such a government that works to end the internal political division under the eyes of the incoming parliament.
He pointed out that the movement is proceeding with its arrangements for the election. The results, he confirmed, will be accepted whatever they are.
Hamas won an overwhelming majority in the last parliamentary election held in 2006. It is favourite to win again, albeit with a reduced majority. The senior official noted that the Palestinians are holding elections this year because the people are demanding that they be held, not because any outside power has insisted on it.
Meanwhile, he added that the movement has filed complaints about some violations by members of other electoral lists, as well as a number of supervisors of the electoral process.
