A group of extremist Jewish settlers attacked Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood on Sunday night, eyewitnesses have told Wafa news agency. According to local resident Amin Burqan, the settlers’ attack coincided with a raid by occupation security forces at Al-Sumoud refugee camp.
Burqan said that Palestinian homes were attacked with stones, vehicles were vandalized and live bullets were fired at them. The attack took place amid tension in Jerusalem with settlers organizing violent and provocative rallies in the city’s neighbourhoods.
Clashes also broke out in Shufaat refugee camp to the north of occupied Jerusalem following an Israeli forces’ raid into the camp. The occupation forces fired rubber-coated steel bullets, stun grenades and tear gas canisters at the camp’s residents.
Meanwhile, Palestinian residents in the village of Burin near Nablus in the occupied West Bank, fended off an attack by Israeli settlers against the village on Sunday evening. Local sources told Wafa that the Israeli Jewish settlers from a nearby illegal Jewish settlement went to the outskirts of the village of Burin and threw Molotov cocktails at Palestinian homes.
Settlers’ violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the occupied West Bank. Many Israeli rights groups and NGOs have proved that such racist anti-Palestinian attacks are supported by the Israeli government.
