After the clashes last night that injured 205 Palestinians, the European Union called for calm on Saturday morning.

It put responsibility on “all sides” to de-escalate tensions in Jerusalem, especially around Al-Aqsa mosque complex.

“Acts of incitement around the Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif must be avoided and the status quo has to be respected,” the EU said in a statement

“Political, religious and community leaders on all sides should show restraint and responsibility and make every effort to calm down this volatile situation.”

It also said the attempted evictions of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah are “illegal under international humanitarian law and only serve to fuel tensions on the ground.”
