A former Palestinian Authority and PLO official said on Tuesday that the PA should be dissolved soon.

“If the deal of the century is implemented on the ground, there would be no justification for the existence of the PA,” explained Yasser Abed Rabbo, who was also a senior aide of the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.

Abed Rabbo told Al-Watan Voice that the PA did not achieve even the least aspirations of the Palestinians. It does not, for example, carry out its responsibilities towards the Gaza Strip, nor fulfil any pledges in that regard.

The former official stressed that the PA “must” end its security cooperation with Israel, pointing out that this is the purpose of its existence.

Instead, it should turn back to its people, achieve national unity and reactivate popular resistance, led by the Palestinians in Gaza, who have “good and accumulated experience” of this.

“Today, creating a state under the occupation is not effective,” he said. “It is a symbolic measure. The best choice is to adopt the national view and reject the deal.”

However, he stressed that such a national view must be based on national unity and an agreed upon programme through holding national conferences that include all of the Palestinian factions and active individuals.

According to Abed Rabbo, the Palestinians in Palestine and in the diaspora have to come together and unite their efforts in order to undermine the implementation of the Trump “peace plan”.

In the meantime, diplomatic efforts to confound the plan must continue and even be doubled.
