Member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council, Mowafaq Matar, expressed his fear that a wave of price hikes could be targeting the Palestinian Authority (PA), Sama news agency reported yesterday.
His remarks came in an article published in the official PA Al Hayat newspaper in which he said that he was afraid that the price hikes could be carried after efforts to incite the Palestinians against the PA failed.
“After their failure, they decided to punish the people, and then blame the price hike on the PA,” he said, adding: “Their goal is to incite the people through the price hike against the PA.”
Matar said that the PA does not have enough financial resources in order to subsidize goods. It is, however, able to control prices through laws that protect both consumers and traders, he explained.
