There is a historic opportunity “to reclaim the Gaza Strip and promote voluntary migration,” Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was quoted as saying by Maariv newspaper yesterday.
Ben-Gvir claimed such a move “is what will bring peace to southern Israel.”
Earlier in the day, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted the Housing Minister, Yitzhak Goldknopf, as saying that settlement in Gaza should be the response to the events of 7 October and the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Meanwhile, Israeli President Isaac Herzog said: “We must neither rest nor remain silent until the hostages in Gaza return to their homes.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar added that Israel will end the war in Gaza when it “achieves its objectives,” claiming that his country has no intention to control civilian life in Gaza.
